1. The uninsured which consist of about 50,000,000
million people

2. The insured which consist of about 250,000,000
million people.
Ironically the numbers of Uninsured citizens increases by time (as you think not) due to the high cost of the national insurance.

Here is a short preview of the available solutions:

Traditional Health Insurance Plans:

Examples:

• Enrollment time frames & stipulations (group plans)

As a result, many of the over 47 million uninsured Americans* continue to
willingly or unwillingly move away from traditional health insurance companies
due to
1) Rising Costs
2) Inability to qualify (pre-existing) and
3)
Spending money on plans that may or may not be utilized.

CDC studies indicate no H1N1 protection with seasonal flu vaccine

Many people are wondering if the standard seasonal flu vaccine could help to protect against the H1N1 swine flu virus. Unfortunately, a study from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) indicate there is little to no crossover protection.

CDC seasonal influenza A vaccine report

Case reports from 356 patients who contracted swine flu in May and June of 2009 were reviewed. These patients represented eight different U.S. states and were adults, ranging in age from 18 to over 50. Subjects in the study had received the seasonal influenza A vaccine from Sept 2008 through Feb 2009. This study showed no protective effect from the seasonal flu vaccine and no greater chance of contracting swine flu after receiving the seasonal flu shot.

Other studies confirm swine flu results

An Australian study showed similar lack of protection for swine flu from the seasonal flu vaccine. A study in New York that has not been published confirmed these previous results in children. Five studies from Canada show that not only does the influenza A vaccine not protect from swine flu, it may actually increase risk of contracting swine flu.

Swine flu and seasonal flu are different viruses

These results are not entirely surprising. Seasonal flu virus and the H1N1 virus are different enough that one vaccine is not likely to prevent both illnesses. Specific vaccines remain necessary at this time. People wanting protection from swine flu should contact their healthcare provider regarding availability of the vaccine. The American Lung Association is offering a Flu Clinic Locator to assist the public in finding places where the vaccines are being given.

Swine flu vaccine clinics scheduled in Montco

Swine flu vaccine clinics scheduled in Montco

Walk-in swine flu vaccine clinics have been scheduled for Friday in Gilbertsville and Saturday in Plymouth Meeting, the Montgomery County Health Department said yesterday. Both are free but limited to priority groups for vaccine.

Friday's clinic will run from 1 to 4 p.m. at Hope Community Church, 2732 N. Charlotte St. Saturday's will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Central Montco Technical High School, 821 Plymouth Rd. Information: 610-278-5117.

Several clinics have experienced lines; early arrival is advised. Details on these and other public clinics are posted at http://go.philly.com/flu/

Currently scheduled around the region:

The Pennsylvania Department of Health is sponsoring swine flu vaccine clinics Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 18 locations around the state, including Boothwyn in Delaware County; Manheim, Lancaster County; Reading, Berks County; and Allentown, Lehigh County. Appointments are required and may be made online or by calling 1-877-724-3258.

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health has 28 walk-in vaccine clinics around the city. Go online or call 215-685-6458 for details.

Priority groups for all the above are: pregnant women; household contacts and caregivers for infants under 6 months; health-care and emergency-medical-services workers; all people 6 months through 24 years old; people 25 through 64 who have underlying medical conditions that put them at risk of complications from influenza. - Don Sapatkin

Swine Flu Now Considered a National Emergency According to Obama

The Washington Times recently reported on the story that has got the American public in a frenzy. People fear the swine flu like the plague, and although it can be deadly, the H1N1 virus has proven to be less deadly than the “regular” flu strand that comes along every year mainly between the months of November and March. So far in the U.S., 1,000 deaths have been attributed to swine flu in comparison to the thousands more that die each year in the U.S. due to complications from the seasonal flu. In other words, I don’t think people should be any more fearful about the swine flu as they are about the annual seasonal flu.

President Obama’s declaration this past weekend will make it easier for people to receive care if they are suspected of carrying the H1N1 virus by loosening regulations on Medicare, Medicaid and insurance requirements that often slow down the process for someone who is seeking care from a health facility. This should help speed up treatment and hopefully reduce the spread of the virus.

The government had hoped to have 120 million H1N1 vaccines ready to go by now, but only about 11 million have been shipped to health care facilities so far. They hope to have 150 million additional vaccines ready to go by December.

The government and many health officials are asking the public to allow children, pregnant women and the elderly first crack at the swine flu vaccinations due to the shortage.

Though I do not know of anyone personally who has, or has had, the swine flu, I am seeing the effects of it everyday in my community. An incredible amount of school districts, community events and sporting events have been canceled to try and prevent the H1N1 virus from spreading. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before, and it has me wondering…With the seasonal flu being more deadly than the swine flu statistically speaking, how come there’s not this sort of panic every time flu season rolls around?

UCLA basketball: Zeigler will wait, Smith will sign

November 16, 2009 | 3:10 pm

UCLA-logo Trey Zeigler, the shooting guard that UCLA is recruiting out of Michigan, said today that the Bruins rank among the top teams on his list but that he will wait until spring before announcing a decision.

Oklahoma and Michigan are among the other schools on the 6-foot-5 prospect's list. His father, Ernie, is the coach at Central Michigan and a former assistant under Ben Howland at UCLA and Pittsburgh.

Meanwhile, Josh Smith, a recruit who recently committed to the Bruins, will take care of the paperwork and sign tomorrow.

UCLA basketball: First half report

UCLA basketball: First half report

November 16, 2009 | 10:09 pm

This could be a very rough season for the Bruins.

After unimpressive exhibition victories over Concordia and Humboldt State, UCLA is struggling in their official season opener at Pauley Pavilion, trailing Cal State Fullerton, 33-27, at the half.

What's wrong with the Bruins? Where to begin?

During the first 20 minutes, they made only 12 of 36 shots, finding almost no rhythm on offense. They hold a slight advantage in rebounds but have eight turnovers.

The only bright spot has been the play of sophomore guard Malcolm Lee, who has 10 points after a string of baskets inside.

Guard Aaron Thompson and forward Gerard Anderson are leading the Titans with 13 and nine points respectively.
